Let us state that there are several organizations and businesses in the world that use the name "Eastern Star."  Within this Website, we are referring to an organization known as The Supreme Grand Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, and its affiliated Chapters in Member States that are a part of this Masonic Order.

The purpose of this site is twofold:  

1. To help those who have an interest in the Eastern Star find out more about it and how to join.

2. To help our members and affiliates learn more about The Order, we provide access to the services of our National Organization, The General Grand Masonic Congress & The Supreme Grand Chapter. It is comprised of each State's Grand Lodge and Grand Chapter, which is comprised of several Local Lodges and Chapters within each City.

Who May Join
The Order of Eastern Star has progressed in many ways over the years of its original inception as to who is eligible to petition for Membership and how membership is obtained. Presently, those who are eligible to be considered for membership are Men who are Master Masons and 
Women with specific Masonic or O.E.S. Affiliation or Recommendation.

Well-recommended women include:
Daughters of Sisters or Brothers that are affiliated with Master Masons or Eastern Stars in good standing, or if deceased, in good standing at the time of their death; as well as Members that are active must be in good standing. A Legacy is someone whose close family member is or was an Eastern Star or Master Mason in Good Standing with his or her Chapter or Lodge. Some people are introduced to the Order from an early age or through other Organizations that are similar in nature that promote Sisterhood, Service, and charity, like a Collegiate Sorority, the International Order of Job's Daughters, or the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls. The Order of Eastern Star is a voluntary organization, so you must Ask 1 2Be 1, because we want your choice to be a part of this Noble High Order to be 100% Voluntary of your own free will and Accord, not coerced in any way...It is quite often compared to an interspersal calling to ministry or to a career that tugs at your heart. We often say or ask individuals contemplating the possibility of becoming an Eastern Star, as well as in all things Masonic; before you advance forward into any endeavor, you first pray and be sure that what you are about to enter Is of your own free will and accord. Most Chapters require each Candidate that Petitions Membership to be of Lawful Age (at least the age of 18 years). They Must believe in a Higher Power. Be of Good Moral Value, Character, and Stature within the community, and be Well Recommended to be eligible for membership in the Order of the Eastern Star (O.E.S.).

Q. Is the Order of the Eastern Star a secret society?
A.   No. Secret societies are underground and hard to find.  We are easily found within the community, but we enjoy a distinctive means of identifying with each other. Only members are allowed in a closed meeting.

Q.  Can I afford membership in the Order of the Eastern Star
A. Yes.  Financial position is not considered in the Order.  Members come from all economic stations of life.

Q. Is my religious faith allowed in the Order of the Eastern Star?
A. Yes.  Members of all religions may belong to the Order of the Eastern Star.  We only require a belief in a Supreme Being.

Q. Is the Order of the Eastern Star time-consuming?
A. After your initiation into our Order, you may attend as your time permits.

Q. Is there any memory work?
A. Yes, there is some memory work if you want to obtain points or levels of growth and understanding. Some would be helpful if you want to move up in position as an officer within the Order.

Q. Is the Order patriotic and democratic?
A. Yes, Members are taught an allegiance to preserve the good of their country and community, but we do not promote any political affiliation. We just ask that you be a good citizen and practice good will toward your fellow man or woman.
