This National Organization of A.F.& A.M. Lodges was formed to act as an advisory and administrative body of the Fraternity, not as a governing body for its member Grand Lodges. The United Supreme Council (U.S.C.), with which it is affiliated, is a part of The Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite (A.A.S.R.) Order of Freemasonry for the Southern and Western Masonic Jurisdiction of the United States of America. It was organized 

April 5, 1869, in the city of Washington, D.C., by many high-degree Masons from Washington, D.C., who regulate Scottish Rite Masonry from

the fourth to the thirty-third and final degrees. Each of these bodies serves the purpose of giving the Masonic student a clearer insight into

the realm of Masonic perfection, rendering him similar services as would a college to a high school graduate.
